Newport to Avalon Swim
Avalon Beach Surf Swims
The Avalon swims have undergone major changes in recent years, with the addition of the Newport-Avalon swim and the rescheduling of the event from January to April. This season sees further changes: awgies have rejigged the swims off Avalon Beach: As well as the 2.5km swim from Newport "around the bends" to Avalon, there will be only one other swim off Avalon, of 1.2km, which the organisers are pitching as a family swim with mum and dad able to swim with the kids. Reinforcing this, you can do both swims for the one entry fee: $40. This is to encourage parents to swim the longer swim, then jump back in and swim with their kids in the shorter swim off Avalon.
"Avalon boasts one of the most picturesque coastlines of all the Northern Beaches beauties. With the help of the ‘North Avalon express’, you can get an easy ride out past the flowing seaweed and sea life covered rocks to the first bouy before swimming across the beach to the pool and back to the new club house.
"Imagine the feeling of doing so with your child by your side! While Avalon’s shore dump can at times be tricky to navigate, the easy ride out and the scenic swim across the beach between the headlands make it all worthwhile, and of course offers valid bragging rights for you and/or your child as soon as landing on the sandy finish line!"
The Newport to Avalon Swim will run first at 8am, followed by the 1.2km swim at 9:30.

Newport to Avalon starts at the northern end of Newport Beach and heads out around the headland, past Bilgola Beach, then past another headland into Avalon.
At Avalon, the 1.2km swim starts at the northern end of the beach, out through the break via the ‘North Avalon Express’, thence towards the southern headland to around the middle of the beach and then straight in towards the clubhouse.
Registration - On-line here. Registration on the day is available from 8am upstairs at Avalon Beach SLSC, and from 7am at the carpark at the northern end of Newport beach for the Around the Bends swim.
Back of the Pack - Avalon offers a Back of the Pack division for those who’d like a more relaxed swim. Swim with your friends, wear a wetsuit or flippers. Your time will be recorded but you wont be eligible for prizes. You can tick the checkbox for Back of the Pack when you enter on line.
Entry fees - $40 if you want to swim one or both swims. Race in the 2.5km swim and then jump in and support your child in the 1.2km swim at Avalon no extra charge. You still need to register online for both swims so you will receive your ankle tag.
